KS5: Option Blocks

Our Key Stage 5 curriculum is designed to provide specialist training in a more specific skill set and also allow students the flexibility to mix hands-on applied learning with academic subjects if they wish. Students study 2 or more subjects for up to 15 hours per week plus their own independent study and creative practice time.

This curriculum provides students with industry relevant vocational training and all qualifications are UCAS eligible meaning that students graduated with high levels of UCAS points. Please note, our post 16 offer is a Level 3 provision. Therefore, in order to be considered for a place at Elstree Screen Arts Academy at Post 16, we require all students to achieve five 9-4 grade GCSE or equivalent (including English and Maths). We also require students to achieve a grade 6 or higher in a related subject to the area they wish to study at level 3.

The subject options are outlined below. You need to select a combination of subjects that add up to a total of at least 15 curriculum hours per week and are in separate blocks (see the table below and give us a call if you need any assistance). Each block is equivalent to 5 hours of study. Occasionally students do undertake more than this, but it is dependent on their GCSE results (Eligibility Criteria: Grades 7 or above in the majority of their GCSE subjects).

ESA Magic at Post-16

In addition to our courses, we run a range of creative curricular projects that provide students with professional quality showreel and portfolio content and in some cases official credits.  Creative industry partners highly value this project based experience and we expect post 16 students to fully engage in our extended curriculum.  In year 13, our most experienced students can be recognised as craft experts in a particular field and become ESA ‘prefects’.  This is dependent on their level of interaction with extended curriculum projects.
